One of the Chinese medical methods that we follow at Ayadi Amina, is acupuncture which is the insertion of needles into superficial structures of the body (skin, subcutaneous tissue, muscles), usually at acupuncture points (acupoints) to relief pain and treats / prevents various diseases.
We, at Ayadi Amina, offer different types of cupping, which is an ancient Chinese practice, applied by acupuncturists on specific points according to meridians or on different regions of the body that are affected by pain.
In history, bamboo cups were used. During 20th century, glass cups were developed and then plastic cups with suction tool are on the market.
At Ayadi Amina clinic, glass cups are used for sterility issue, although plastic cups are provided too upon request.
Certain amount of bruising is expected on some points under cups.
:: Dry cupping or fire cupping
Its main indication is removing cold from the channels. Cupping is mainly recommended for the treatment of pain, gastrointestinal disorders, lung diseases, etc..
It is also called "cup-waiting" method, as it involves keeping the cup on the selected locations or points, for 10-15 minutes before removal. Cupping involved applying heated cup that mobilizes the blood flow and promotes effective healing.
:: Needle retention cupping
This method combine cupping with acupuncture. It is done by applying a cup over the center of the site where a needle has been inserted. This cupping technique is indicated to relief local pain. As blood and energy flow increases, it releases tissues deep inside, relax tense muscles and reduces stiffness associated to pain.
The cup is removed when
the skin turns rosy, congested and blood stagnation appears.
:: Moving - Sliding cupping
In order to allow easy movement of the glass cups along the skin, some oil (essential or medicated massage oils) is applied. Moving cupping, due to friction, generate some heat, especially if a warming oil is used as lubricant. This heat can be moved with the cups according to channels/ meridians. The main indication of this technique is to increase the heat and distribute it among corresponding channels.
:: Bleeding - Wet cupping
Wet cupping removes harmful substances and toxins, from the body to promote healing. After putting cups for seven to ten minutes, cups are removed and the therapist uses a small scalpel or three edge needle ( pricking cupping) to make light, tiny cuts on the skin. Then a second suction with the glass cups will be done to draw out the necessary quantity of blood.
As sunnah, during specific conditions (spring-time, after the mid lunar month, in the early mornings, etc..) four cups are used on four specific points located between scapulas (back of the shoulders).
As traditional treatment, glass cups are used on the located region of pain or specific points according to the body disorder.
Afterwards, antiseptic and bandage are used to prevent infection. The skin should look normal within 7 to 10 days max.
What could be the side effets of cupping?
Cupping is fairly safe, as long as it is done by trained health professional. But it could have some side effects in the areas on which the cups touched the skin, such as: mild discomfort, burns, bruises, or skin infectoon.
